Original Medicine 4-Part Series with Elvina Charley, Ed.S, of the Diné (Navajo) Nation

About Original Medicine 4-Part Series

Original Medicine 4-Part Series is a platform for Indigenous elders, teachers, and healers from all four corners of the world to come and share their wisdom. This series seeks to illuminate the often overlooked and unheard voices of Indigenous people. These sessions offer a psycho-spiritual, cross-cultural, and mindfulness approach that weaves Indigenous Wisdom, Buddha-Dharma, and Earth-based practices. We work with each Season as a teacher, featuring a different guest speaker every Season, so that we may be in an intentional practice of connecting ourselves with the natural world.

Session Description

This coming Saturday, January 25, we will be welcoming Elvina Charley, Ed.S, from the Diné (Navajo) nation as the guest teacher for our Original Medicine 4-Part Series this winter. Elvina is a school psychologist practitioner and integrates mindfulness as a part of serving children and youth. Elvina has been practicing mindfulness since 2013, introduced to her by Bonnie Duran, Ph.D. as a way to heal from historical trauma. She found parallels between her Diné philosophy of life – Sa’ah naaghái bik’eh hózhóón and Buddhism. Elvina continues to cultivate her practice through people of color retreat programs at the Insight Meditation Society and Vallecitos Mountain Retreat Center. Elvina received training through Mindful Schools to bring back mindfulness to reservation schools.
